In the 1950’s, the ideal image was fair skin and a curvy figure. In the 2000’s, it was skinny and tan. Now it’s a big butt, small waist, and tan skin. Standards of beauty are always evolving based on what that the current culture considers desirable. Since culture is always changing, and the images we are confronted with are not even reality, how should we judge ourselves then? How about from an eternal perspective? How about from God’s point of view?
“You are altogether beautiful, my love; there is no flaw in you.” Song of Solomon 4:7 (ESV)
“Don’t be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes. Rather, beauty is something internal that can’t be destroyed. Beauty expresses itself in a gentle and quiet attitude which God considers precious.” 1 Peter 3:3-4 (NLT)
God is after the beauty in your heart. Inward beauty is more important than outward beauty. If you are beautiful on the inside it will show on the outside. To me, the most beautiful women in the world are those who are beautiful on the inside. It makes their outward appearance ten times more beautiful.
“But the Lord said to Samuel, ‘…The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7 (NIV)
Embrace who you are. Know that you are beautiful because you are a WOMAN of God. Cultivate and work on your inner beauty. That is your true beauty. If you don’t define beauty for yourself, the world will define if for you. The definition I want to give you is this: God has put beauty on the inside of you. It has been implanted in you. Be willing to see yourself the way God sees you. You don’t have to be anybody but yourself. You are gorgeous. The Bible says that you are “fearfully and wonderfully made” in Psalm 139:14. I don’t care who has told you anything else. YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL!
